Jayden Garner already had scored two rushing touchdowns, so he got a little creative when it was time to haul in a touchdown reception. Midway through the third quarter Thursday night, Garner did a juggling act, while being covered, and pulled in a 42-yard TD pass.

“Just having a little fun,” Garner said after Class 5A No. 7 Skiatook’s 35-7 win over Memorial. “I saw the ball in the air, so I just had to come down with it.”

It was that kind of game at LaFortune Stadium for the 6-foot-1, 170-pound sophomore wide receiver. Garner finished with six carries for 94 yards and two TDs, and he topped that off with two receptions — Skiatook’s only completions of the game — for 70 yards and his TD.

“It gives us another weapon on offense,” Skiatook coach Vance Miller said. “With being heavy on the run, and then being able to throw to Jayden, it makes us dangerous.”

Then there’s Garner’s partner in crime on offense, Tulsa commit TK Wilkerson. The senior tailback finished with 131 yards and two TDs on 21 carries for the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-0 District 5A-4).

“That was fun,” Wilkerson said. “It’s always fun winning.”

The Bulldogs left little doubt about winning early on.

Garner capped Skiatook’s first drive with a 3-yard TD run midway through the first quarter, and Wilkerson’s first score came on a 1-yard run that polished off a nine-play drive later in the quarter.

Memorial (1-4, 0-3) cut Skiatook’s lead in half on Jamoni Jones’ 1-yard TD run with 6:45 left in the second quarter. Jones — who finished with 78 yards on 14 carries — and the Chargers used a 13-play drive to hijack most of the second period, but Skiatook answered before intermission.

After Memorial logged a short 10-yard punt inside its own territory, Skiatook took over at the Chargers’ 33, and Garner went the distance on the Bulldogs’ first play.

“Want to thank my teammates,” Garner said. “I couldn’t do anything without them.”

The second half featured a Wilkerson 3-yard TD run early in the third quarter, and then Garner’s acrobatic TD reception. The Bulldogs finished with 301 yards on the ground, and they limited Memorial to 111 yards of total offense.

“Another good win for us; an important district win,” Miller said. “We played a good second half and finished strong.”
