With smothering defensive play and a touchdown from Jayden Garner, Skiatook defeated the Collinsville Cardinals to conclude an impressive 9-1 regular season in which they were District 5A-4 Champs.

Every time the Bulldogs and the Cardinals matchup in the rivalry known at the Highway 20 Bowl, a lot of excitement is expected. The game did not disappoint at all. It was short on points, but high in intensity.

Both teams have powerful offenses, so it was a surprise to see the first quarter end scoreless. The biggest play of the opening quarter came from the Skiatook defense, who shut down Collinsville 4 plays in a row after the started 1st and goal from the 5.

Skiatook’s first points came halfway through the second quarter, courtesy of kicker Derek Eckenfels, who kicked a 37 yard field to send the Bulldogs up 3-0.

The first half ended at a 3-0 tie, the lowest scoring half for the Bulldogs this season.

In the second half, Collinsville managed to knot the score up with a long field goal with 8:51 left in the third quarter. The field goal came after a long kick return put the Cardinals in optimal scoring position.

The game was uncomfortably close for most Skiatook fans until Jayden Garner finally broke the touchdown-less night, scoring on a run from about twenty yards out.

The Bulldogs defense was phenomenal through the rest of the game. Collinsville had multiple chances to drive, but every time Skiatook stood strong. Chandler Perigo, Jeron Seabolt, Jaxon Dohn, and the rest of the defense was tremendous.

The clock ran out on the Cardinals, and the Bulldogs held on to win 10-3.
