On Dec. 1 against Coweta, Anna Bonham turned an icy start into a high-scoring game. She missed 9 of her first 11 shots before going off for 25 points in a stellar second half performance, but that was still not enough to get the Lady Bulldogs the win. The game was the home-opener for Skiatook. They came into the game ranked #13 in Class 5A, while Coweta was #18. Both teams entered the game 0-1, with Skiatook’s first loss coming 56-32 to Grove in the first game of the season. Against Coweta, Skiatook got out to a quick start. A tipped pass led to a steal, and Hanna Dysart found senior Anna Bonham in transition. Bonham was fouled and split the free throws, sending the Lady Bulldog’s up 1-0. That was Skiatook’s only point of the quarter. It was a turnover-heavy period of sloppy basketball from the Lady Bulldogs. Fortunately, Coweta was struggling as well. The Tigers only had 7 points, 3 of which came from sophomore Madison Wheat. Skiatook didn’t score again until Bonham was fouled with 7:11 left in the second. She made both free throws, and then hit a jumper from the elbow on the next possession. This seemed to spur on the offense. Skiatook’s Emma Anderson and Hanna Dysart also got baskets to drop, and Bonham added another as the Lady Bulldogs clawed back into the game, 12-11. Skiatook once again went cold while Coweta closed out the half on a 15-4 run fueled by methodical possession and good ball movement. The Tigers led 27-15 at the half. At the half, Anna Bonham was the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 7 points. Coweta’s Faith Burleson had 11 to lead the Tigers. The Lady Bulldogs found their offense to open the second half, but the Tigers did as well. Skiatook outscored Coweta 12-10 as Bonham heated up, going 4-4 for 10 points and adding an assist in the quarter. She drilled two deep threes and two contested layups, and with the assist she was responsible for all the points of the third. Coweta, however, had an answer for everything. Wheat scored 6 points to lead the Tigers. Down 12 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady bulldogs needed some scoring and big defensive stops. Both were hard to come by. Skiatook scored 8 points, but it was not enough to keep up with the Tigers. Coweta went on to win the game 53-37. Bonham ended with 25 of Skiatook’s 37 points.
