The 5A #9 Skiatook Bulldogs traveled to 4A #11 Cleveland on December 5th to open the dual season up and came away with an impressive win against the Tigers 53-11. The Bulldogs are coming off a pretty successful season and are looking forward to another one as they are returning eight starters, four state qualifiers, one state placer and add a very talented group of freshman to the starting lineup.

The first bout of the night was freshman Bulldog 106lb Kyle Bowman (1-0) going up against Peyton Brown. The two wrestlers battled it out for three periods but it was Bowman that came up with the major decision 13-4 and put the Bulldogs on top 4-0.

At 113lbs freshman Ryan Geib (1-0) received a forfeit.

Junior 120lb Trey Bowman (0-1) wrestled Cleveland’s Jacob Schwenker. It was a battle from the first whistle but Schwenker was able to beat Bowman in the sudden victory period 4-2.

Skiatook’s next wrestler was freshman 126lb Josh Taylor (1-0). Taylor faced the Tigers Madison Dekker and the Bulldog didn’t waste any time pinning his opponent at 1:10 mark of the first period giving Skiatook a 16-3 lead in the dual.

Senior 132lb Brodie McNutt (1-0) beat Cleveland’s Dylan Brown by a 6-4 decision.

Next up for the Bulldogs was sophomore 138lb Cale Glover (0-1). Glover wrestled Cleveland’s state placer Zachary Myles. The match went into the 3rd period but eventually Glover got beat by technical fall 17-1. Myles win pulled the Tigers a little closer to the Bulldogs making the dual score 19-8.

Freshman 145lb Cougar Andersen (1-0) stepped out on the mat with another one of Cleveland’s state placers Blake Hickerson. In what seemed to be the match of the night the Bulldog and Tiger went toe to toe throughout 3 periods with Andersen coming out on top with a 9-6 decision.

Sophomore 152lb Jeran Seabolt (1-0) faced the Tigers Robert Gaches. Seabolt pinned his guy in: 54 seconds making the dual score 28-8.

160lb senior Bulldog Austin Johnson (1-0) wrestled the Tigers John Walters. Johnson struggled a little at first with Walters but eventually broke his spirit and came away with a 15-5 major decision.

Freshman 170lb Hunter Hall (1-0) went nose to nose with Cleveland’s Tyler Johnson for three periods. Hall hung on and got a takedown late in the match and hung on to a 6-5 decision over the Tiger. The Bulldog sealed the dual victory with the win making the score 35-8.

The Bulldogs 182lb freshman Brian Pollard (1-0) was the next Bulldog to step out on the mat. He wasted no time in pinning Cleveland’s Luis Delagado in 29 seconds of the first period.

Junior 195lb Blake Watkins (1-0) wrestled Atticus Aguilar. Aguilar lasted the first period with Watkins but fell to the mighty Bulldog in the 51 second mark of the second period putting the Bulldogs on top 47-8.

Up next for the Bulldogs was the 2017 5A 220lb fourth place finisher junior 220lb Korbin McLaughlin (1-0) wrestling against Alex Holder. McLaughlin made short time of his opponent by pinning his guy in the first period at the 40 second mark.

Senior heavy weight Dylon Carnagey (1-0) went to battle with Cleveland’s JR Clark. The two heavy weights went nose to nose for three periods and ended up tied. The Bulldog ended up getting beat in the 3rd overtime period on a couple of locked hands calls by an 8-3 decision.

The Bulldogs won their season opener 53-11. The next dual for the 5A #9 Bulldogs will be December 12th as they travel to the 6A #10 Owasso Rams. Wrestling starts at 7 p.m.
