When Skiatook hosted the Collinsville Cardinals on Friday, January 12th in the Brooks Walton Activity Center, a big fourth quarter led to a come-from-behind win for the Lady Bulldogs. Senior Anna Bonham played a very solid game, posting 21 points and adding 4 steals. Along with the stand-out senior, Arionne Sletto played a tremendously efficient and effective game. She scored 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting and added 6 boards, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. The Lady Bulldogs defense played well all game long, disrupting almost every shot the Cardinals took. Collinsville only shot 23 percent from the field, which plays a big part in Skiatook managing to hold on for a win. Skiatook started out really well, with Bonham hitting a deep three on the first possession of the game. This jumped Skiatook out to a 3-0 lead. After her three, however, it seemed there was a lid on the basket for the girls. They struggled to get anything to drop or the rest of the first quarter, only putting up two more points despite a lot of hustle and effort. Fortunately, things weren’t looking much better for the Cardinals. Collinsville only scored 6 in the first, jumping out to a 6-5 lead at the end of the first 8 minutes of regulation. The second quarter looked much better for Skiatook. The shots began to fall and the defense played better, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to overtake the Cardinals right before halftime on another Bonham 3. Skiatook led 17-14 heading into the locker room. The third quarter went back and forth. Bonham kept the girls in the game with her scoring—hitting from pull-ups, floaters, and even adding free throws—but Collinsville recaptured the lead and held it going into the final quarter. But the girls came alive in the fourth. Skiatook had an explosion of offense—erupting for 21 points—and the Cardinals had no answer. The Lady Bulldogs moved the ball well and the shots were scoring points in bunches. After passing the Cardinals early in the fourth, Skiatook never looked back. The Bulldogs climbed up to a 9 point lead before eventually winning 47-40. It was a good win for Skiatook against a ranked team—a win that will give the girls a shot of confidence going into next week.
