The Skiatook Bulldogs (5-1) responded to a disappointing loss last week by dominating Memorial on the road, 42-18, behind a solid offensive outing. Class 5A No. 6 Skiatook opened the game by forcing a three and out, and then a poor punt from the Chargers gave Skiatook the ball on Memorial’s side of the field. Using running back by committee with Korbin McLaughlin, Greydon Jackson, and Jaxson Dohn helped Skiatook move the ball into the red zone, setting up Jackson for a 1-yard score early in the first. After another big stop from Skiatook’s defense, the Bulldogs had great field position once again. They kept the ball on the ground for five plays before Cash Cooper scored on a 40-yard screen pass that quarterback Cody Evans sold well. The score and extra point from Derek Eckenfels put the Bulldogs up, 14-0, by the end of the first quarter. Memorial finally gained a little traction on their next possession. They put together a 90-yard drive led by star running back Jamoni Jones. The Chargers then punched it into the end zone on a 7-yard quarterback keeper. Despite the score, Skiatook’s offense kept churning. The committee of backs moved them down the field, aided by an 18-yard run from Dohn, and Jayden Garner scored on a double-reverse to give Skiatook a 21-6 lead. But the high-scoring first half was still not over. Garner found the end zone again, this time on a 28-yard reception from Evans, and on the last play of the first half, Dohn stripped the Charger ball carrier and returned the ball 97-yards for a wild touchdown to punctuate an impressive half of football for the Bulldogs. They led 34-6 at halftime. The second half was more of the same, but with some personnel changes for Skiatook to gain valuable experience. The only score of the half came from Korbin McLaughlin from 4-yards out, while Memorial scored twice late in the game on a 50-yard run from Jones and a 30-yard run from Mojo Harris. Skiatook played solid football all night long and found the end zone on the ground, through the air, and off of a turnover, so the Bulldogs will look to carry the high-scoring attack into next week when the team visits Tulsa Rogers.
