Claremore moved a step closer to hosting a playoff game as Christian Gotcher kicked a 20-yard field goal in the second overtime, and the Zebras’ defense then kept the sixth-ranked Bulldogs from scoring at Skiatook’s Hap Dunlap Field.

With Skiatook (6-2, 3-2 District 5A-4) needing a field goal to extend the game or a touchdown to win, the Zebras (5-3, 4-1) forced the Bulldogs to try for a tying field goal. But Jakob Gilmore and Quentin Skinner combined to block the kick to give Claremore its fourth straight victory.

“Our players fought hard for 48 minutes and two overtime periods,” Claremore coach Jarrett Hurt said. “Our theme for the week was ‘take it’ because we knew (Skiatook) wouldn’t just give it to us. Our players had to earn it, and I’m proud of our grit.”


In regulation, Skiatook quarterback Cody Evans hit Cash Cooper for a 33-yard touchdown in the second quarter. And the Bulldogs led until 59 seconds remained in the fourth quarter.

Claremore’s Charlie Murdock scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, and Gotcher booted the extra point to tie the game.

Both teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime with Skiatook scoring first on Jayden Garner’s 9-yard touchdown run. Claremore answered with Dylan Kedizor’s 10-yard touchdown run.

Claremore’s Jace Hightower had 200 yards on 42 carries.
