On December 14th and 15th the Bulldogs traveled to Wagoner to compete against some quality completion around the northeast region. Skiatook, coming off of a three dual winning streak, seemed to be focused and determined to come away with some hardware both individually and as a team. After the dust settled the Bulldogs crowned five individual champions and nine others that medaled plus Sophomore Cougar Andersen was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Placing for the Bulldogs was Devin Wilson at 220 pounds took 5th Place. Fourth Place finishers were Jacob Myers 120 pounds, BK Seago 138 pounds, Hunter Hall 182 pounds and Nathan Easky at Heavy Weight. Second Place finishers were Kyle Bowman 106 pounds, Trey Bowman 113 pounds, Tony Johnson 152 pounds and Alex Johnson 195 pounds. Champions were Cody Francis 126 pounds, Cougar Andersen 160 pounds, Richie Lee 170 pounds, Brian Pollard 182 pounds and Korbin McLaughlin 220 pounds. At 126 pounds Junior Cody Francis faced Miller Vanhanken from Casia Hall in the quarterfinals. Francis was able to pin Miller at the 1:01 mark of the first period advancing him in to the semifinals. Up next for Francis was Zack Ireland for West Bentenville. The two grapplers went into the third period before Francis was able to pin Ireland just thirty seconds into the third period putting the Bulldog in the finals. In the finals the Bulldog faced Braden Drake from Wagoner. The Junior went back and forth with the Bulldog from Wagoner, but it was the Bulldog from Skiatook that came away with a six to three decision and named the 2018 Wagoner High School Tournament 126 pound Champion. At 170 pounds Junior Richie Lee wrestled Clayton Wallace from Sequoyah Tahlequah in the semifinals. Lee made short time of Wallace and pinned him in just 16 seconds of the first period putting him in the finals. In the finals Richie would face the home town kid from Wagoner Tyler Garcia. Lee and Garcia would wrestle the whole three periods, but it was the Bulldog from Skiatook that dominated the whole match and came away with a 10 to 0 major decision making him the 2018 Wagoner High School Tournament 170 pound Champion. At 182 pounds Sophomore Brian Pollard would step on the mat with Jhonathen McGwire from Checotah in the quarterfinals. McGwire gave Pollard all he had but it wasn’t much as Pollard pinned him with just four seconds left in the first period putting the State Placer in the semifinals. Pollard’s next opponent was fellow teammate Hunter Hall. Pollard and Hall wrestled all three periods but it was Pollard that came away with a 6 to 0 decision and advanced to the finals. In the finals Pollard would face another Bulldog in Jalan Miles from Wagoner. The two Bulldogs went nose to nose the first period but it was the Bulldog from Skiatook that would pin the Bulldog from Wagoner just 37 seconds in the second period. With that win Pollard became the 2018 Wagoner High School Tournament 182 pound Champion. At 220 pounds Senior Korbin McLaughlin wrestled Checotah’s Kyler Pouncil in the quarterfinals. Pouncil stepped on the mat with his chest puffed out but McLaughlin paid no attention to that as he easily pinned him just 31 seconds in the first period. In the semifinals the Bulldog faced his teammate Freshman Devin Wilson. McLaughlin was able to advance to the finals with a technical fall against Wilson. In the finals Bobby Goins from Salina would step on the mat with McLaughlin. The Senior was able to come away with a dominant win and was crowned the 2018 Wagoner High School Tournament 220 pound Champion. At 170 pounds returning State Champion Cougar Andersen was able to come away with a second period fall against Newcastle’s Korbi Holderbee advancing him into the Semifinals. Andersen next opponent was Wagoner’s Kaden Charboneau. Andersen went all three periods with Charboneau and was able to secure a ten to two major decision. In the Finals the mighty Bulldog would face another State Champion in Checotah’s Cade Shropshire. The Bulldog was able to out wrestle the Wildcat for three periods and was able to come away with a tough six to three decision. With that win Andersen was named the 2018 Wagoner High School Tournament 160 pound Champion and was also named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.
